Common questions

Is diesel cheaper in Michigan or Ontario?

This week, Michigan is cheaper by about $0.35 per US gallon after converting Windsor’s price at the Bank of Canada exchange rate.

How do you convert Ontario prices?

Ontario reports prices in Canadian cents per litre. We divide by 100 for dollars, multiply by 3.785 litres per US gallon, then divide by the Bank of Canada USD/CAD rate.

Why use the Midwest average for Michigan?

The U.S. Energy Information Administration publishes weekly retail diesel prices by region, and Michigan is in the Midwest (PADD 2) region. It does not publish a weekly Michigan-only diesel price.

Does fuel tax change the math for carriers?

Under IFTA, carriers settle fuel tax by distance driven in each jurisdiction, so the practical saving from where you fill up is mostly the pre-tax price gap. Check with your fuel-tax administrator for your fleet’s situation.
